Welcome to your December Newsletter!

Well, it’s nearly the end of the year again. So, in the Christmas spirit, we thought we’d dress up the Newsletter in its party outfit.

Along with our usual items, we have some Network B2B festive fun facts to get your teeth into. We also go to Head Office in Durham, to meet a team that has grown considerably since we dropped in this time last year.

Big Breakfast

We are holding our annual Big Breakfast networking event on Wednesday 19thDecember.
This will be an informal meeting, with members circulating round the tables to repeat their 60 second slots.
The Big Breakfast is a great opportunity to do some wider networking and see what other members are up to. It’s open to non-members, too, so please feel free to share the date with your contacts.
The meeting will take place from 7.15 to 9.00am at the Mercure George Washington. There is free parking at the hotel. Tickets are £10 per person, and must be booked in advance.

Business Profile

This month we meet Julie Lightfoot, Chair and Licensee of the Preston Network B2B group, which meets at The Macdonald Tickled Trout Hotel for breakfast on Thursday.

Julie runs JL Consultancy, a business she set up in September 2014 when she took voluntary redundancy from the Civil Service. She transformed her own life by setting up her own business and now helps other people to transform theirs, by supporting them in setting, achieving and exceeding their goals.

A firm believer in personal development, Julie recognises that businesses that have happier, more motivated employees are much more likely to achieve their business goals. 

Julie is looking forward to working with two of her Network B2B group members, Adrian Hargreaves and Matthew Gibbs. They plan to collaborate on a project offering a service to businesses that are keen to grow and invest in their staff.

Fun Festive Facts and Figures

There are now 39 Network B2B groups across England and Northern Ireland. If you wanted to visit each group in turn, starting from Head Office in Durham, you’d travel 2196 kilometres. Your journey would involved two ferry trips and two toll tunnels, and take you roughly 34 hours – unless you’re Santa, in which case you could do the entire trip in one night, and still have time to visit all the good little boys and girls.
There are 1,950 breakfast meetings a year. Let’s suppose each meeting is fully attended and everyone has a bacon butty. Piled one on top of the other, the combined height of the bacon butties would be 936 metres, almost as high as Scafell Pike. They would weigh approximately 4,400 kilogrammes – the equivalent of 27 unladen reindeer.

Approximately 46,800 hot drinks are sipped at B2B meetings in a year. That’s roughly 7,020 litres of hot beverage – or 4,680 magnums of Champagne.
The Sixty Seconds is an important part of each meeting. Over the year, the combined length of members’ Sixty Seconds comes to 390 hours – just over 16 days. Start on 9 December – not long now! – and you’d finish on Christmas Day, just in time to open your presents.

Meet the Team!

The friendly team at Network B2B HQ in Durham has grown since we met them in the Newsletter last year, so we thought we’d  say hello to them again.

Left to right in the photo, they are: Shay, Chloe, Rachael, Alex, Jess, Hannah and Stephanie.

Steph is in charge of the admin team, and looks after the Northern Ireland groups and a couple of our north east groups. She will never turn down a cup of tea.
Jess mainly looks after groups in Yorkshire but helps out with other areas too. She can be found doing other jobs, as well, and is definitely the chatterbox of the office.
Hannah has recently returned to work after having a baby. She takes care of our social media and plays a key part in generating visitors for the groups.
Rachael  joined us last year. She takes care of our east midlands groups, as well as some of our newer groups in the south.
Shay and Chloe both joined us in October and cover a range of groups in the north east and Yorkshire. They’ve settled in nicely and are already proving to be great additions to the team.
Last, but obviously not least, Alex attends the networking meetings and makes sure everything runs smoothly.

Building Partnerships

Network B2B has been proving its worth for Martin Taylor of Xi Communications.
Martin has represented the Harrogate-based telecommunications company at the Wetherby group for two years, and has just joined forces with two fellow members, Mike Brewster and Certificated Bailiff Eoin Hirst, to create Civil Enforcement Agency Ltd.

CEA is a Yorkshire-based debt recovery expert, helping organisations recover unpaid invoices, with no fees for the client as these are the passed to the debtor.
Companies moving premises are a particular target for Xi Comms, so when CEA opened their new office in Garforth, Leeds, Xi Communications were on hand to deliver and install the required broadband, telephone numbers and telephones, as well as providing training on how best to use the technology.
Mike Brewster says that being part of Network B2B allows business people to build strong relationships with people they trust. This can lead to anything from supplying them with business products and services, to forming new ventures such as CEA.

Hotel Offer

Stephen Bielby, a new member of the Airedale Valley group, is Sales and Marketing Manager at the Best Western Bradford Guide Post Hotel, and wanted to let members know what’s on offer.
Conveniently located just 2 miles from the M62, the hotel could be the perfect venue for your meeting or training event. Meeting rooms can accommodate up to 120 people, and meeting room hire and day delegate rates start at just £20.00 per person.
Throughout January, the hotel is offering free room hire (a security deposit of £250 is payable at the time of booking) for functions and parties. Hot and cold buffet options will be available, with the bar open until 12.30am.
Discounted accommodation rates are also available for an overnight stay, and larger suites offer a more luxurious experience.
